IN IMAGES, IN PHOTOS – From South Africa to Zimbabwe via Australia, the Bahamas, Kazakhstan and even Vietnam: the 72nd edition of the international beauty pageant will confront 84 young women in El Salvador on November 19, live during the premiere in Paris.
On January 14, 2023, in New Orleans, United States, 83 countries were represented for the competition Ms. Universe . A few months later, a total of 84 of them claim to be the successors of the American R’Bonney Gabriel. Initially, eight countries withdrew: Armenia, Belize, Bhutan, Ghana, Haiti, Seychelles, Turkey and Uruguay. Two more were added: Kyrgyzstan, for repeatedly abandoning its representatives, and then China, which arrived late in El Salvador due to visa problems for its candidate, Qi Jia.
In reverse, ten countries return to the international beauty pageant: Denmark, Egypt, Guyana, Hungary, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Mongolia, Norway and Zimbabwe. Finally, Pakistan makes its debut in the competition. The 84 candidates are between 18 and 30 years old, Diane Leyre represents France at the age of 26. The youngest is Lujane Yacoub from Bahrain and the oldest is Bulgarian Yuliia Pavlikova.

After Spaniard Angela Ponce in 2018, two transgender women are participating in this edition: Rikkie Kollé from the Netherlands and Marina Machete from Portugal. For the first time in the history of Miss Universe, married women and mothers are participating in the competition: the Colombian Camila Avella, the Guatemalan Michelle Cohn and the Swiss Lorena Santen.
